Jadon Sancho has reportedly decided to remain in the Premier League, amid transfer talk linking him with a move to Besiktas. The 26-year-old will become a free agent at the end of June, concluding his five-year stint at Manchester United following last season's loan spell at Aston Villa.
Manchester United Departure
United used just 44 words to announce his departure and, while there's no animosity towards Sancho, he'll be remembered as one of the club's most disappointing signings. United shelled out £73million to secure him from Borussia Dortmund, yet he managed a mere 12 goals across 83 appearances.
His £250,000-a-week salary and the fact United essentially paid £6m per goal highlight just how expensive the transfer proved to be. Sancho, who was omitted from Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad, is currently taking some time off before determining his next destination.
Interest from Besiktas and Premier League
While interest is anticipated, few clubs will be capable of meeting his wage expectations. Turkish outlet Fanatik reports that Besiktas are among the clubs preparing an offer in the 'coming days.' Sancho was reportedly on the Black Eagles' radar during the season, though he's said to be focusing on securing a switch to another Premier League side.
Alan Pardew's View
Meanwhile, Alan Pardew has suggested the winger hasn't performed sufficiently to warrant a significant transfer this summer. "He hasn't really done enough to warrant a massive, massive contract like he was on at Man United, but he'll get a good move," the former Newcastle United boss said on talkSPORT.
"When you get to the end of the season, it is an opportunity. You have to make some really tough calls on who to renegotiate with because obviously there's a value to the football club. You might actually as a manager want them to go, but the club have a financial interest in them, and wants some money back and get them to re-sign one more year. Let's see if we can move him on. It'll be good for you for the year. You have to have all those kinds of debates."
Loan Spell at Aston Villa
During his time at Villa, Sancho made 39 appearances, with just nine starts, one goal and three assists to his name. His lacklustre spell at Villa Park ultimately led Unai Emery's side to walk away from the prospect of signing him permanently.
