Former Aston Villa academy coach Sam Hudson has secured a role with Premier League side Newcastle United, joining their coaching staff at St James's Park. Hudson, who left Portsmouth at the end of last season, will serve as an individual development coach within Newcastle's academy setup.
Hudson's Journey to Newcastle
Hudson originally joined Portsmouth from Aston Villa's academy four years ago, tasked with leading a revamped youth structure at the Championship club. He began as assistant head coach alongside Zesh Rehman after Liam Daish departed as under-18s head coach. When Rehman moved up to the first team following Danny Cowley's exit, Hudson was promoted to professional development phase coach.
Confirming the move on social media, Hudson wrote: "Delighted to announce my new role as Individual Development Coach @NUFC. Looking forward to working my 14th season in the game at such a massive football club."
Changes at Portsmouth Academy
Hudson's departure from Portsmouth came after a series of changes in the club's academy setup. Greg Miller left for Charlton to become their academy manager, with James Barlow appointed as his replacement. Under-18s assistant coach Piero Mingoia has now taken over the role vacated by Hudson.
Hudson's move to Newcastle represents a return to the Premier League environment, where he will contribute to the development of young talent at one of England's most historic clubs.
