Chinese vehicle manufacturer Changan has introduced its second model to the UK market in just six months—the Deepal S05 electric SUV. Priced from £37,990, this newcomer boasts a premium interior, robust performance credentials, and an impressive seven-year warranty, positioning itself as a compelling option in the growing electric vehicle segment.
A New Contender from an Established Brand
While Changan may be unfamiliar to many British drivers, the company brings over four decades of automotive manufacturing experience from China. Notably, it has operated a research and development facility in Birmingham for 11 years, playing a crucial role in tailoring models like the S05 for UK and European markets. Nick Thomas, Changan's UK managing director, emphasises that this local expertise ensures the vehicle is specifically tested and tuned for British roads and regulations.
The brand's global sales exceed 30 million vehicles, lending credibility to its latest offering. The S05 follows the Deepal S07, launched last autumn, and serves as a smaller, more accessible variant aimed at capturing attention in a crowded marketplace.

The Deepal S05 is available in rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) configurations, priced at £37,990 and £39,990 respectively. At launch, optional extras are limited to a panoramic glass roof and a retractable towbar, keeping the offering straightforward.
