E.ON Next Unveils Enhanced EV Tariffs with Significant Cost Savings for Drivers

E.ON Next has announced a major update to its electric vehicle charging tariffs, offering customers substantial financial benefits starting April 1. The energy provider's new Next Drive Smart and Next Drive Fixed plans are specifically designed to provide electric vehicle owners with lower-cost overnight charging options, delivering stability in an otherwise volatile wholesale energy market.

Substantial Annual Savings Compared to Price Cap

According to E.ON's calculations, customers utilizing the Next Drive Smart tariff can save an average of £401 annually when charging their electric vehicles during designated off-peak hours, compared to what they would pay under the new Energy Price Cap. Meanwhile, those opting for the Next Drive Fixed plan can expect savings of approximately £377 per year under similar charging conditions.

Detailed Rate Structures for Both Tariffs

The Next Drive Smart v6.1 tariff features two distinct rate periods: an off-peak rate of 8p/kWh available from midnight to 6am, and a day rate of 29.04p/kWh applicable from 6am to midnight. For customers preferring the Next Drive Fixed v19 option, the off-peak rate (midnight to 6am) is set at 9p/kWh, with a day rate (6am to midnight) of 30.62p/kWh.

Additional Benefits Beyond Cost Savings

Beyond the significant financial advantages, both Next Drive Smart and Next Drive Fixed tariffs offer several supplementary benefits. Customers will enjoy complete flexibility with no exit fees, allowing them to adjust their plans if personal circumstances change. Additionally, subscribers receive a complimentary one-year subscription to Zoom EV, an online platform providing discounts and benefits on public charging, parking, car hire, and related services.

Environmental Contributions and Market Context

E.ON has also incorporated environmental considerations into these new offerings. Each tariff includes a one-time donation to the Woodland Trust, supporting the restoration of the UK's ancient woodlands. This initiative aligns with broader energy market developments, including the government's removal of £126 in green levies from consumer bills, a policy expected to remain in effect until 2029.

The introduction of these enhanced EV tariffs positions E.ON Next competitively against other major energy providers such as British Gas, EDF, Ovo, and Octopus. By offering predictable, low-cost overnight charging rates, E.ON aims to provide electric vehicle drivers with greater confidence and financial certainty amid ongoing energy market fluctuations.
