Major Initiative Launched to Support EV Drivers Without Home Charging
A significant new support scheme has been announced for electric vehicle owners across England who lack access to driveway charging facilities. Starting from Tuesday, April 21, 2026, a groundbreaking partnership between energy supplier OVO and the Electric Vehicle Association (EVA) England will provide substantial charging cost reductions for a three-month period.
Free Access to Discounted Public Charging Network
The collaboration enables all EVA England members to obtain OVO's 'Light Boost' subscription completely free of charge for the entire three-month duration. This innovative program specifically targets drivers who cannot charge their vehicles at home, offering them practical financial relief during the crucial transition to electric mobility.
The subscription provides a substantial 10% discount on public charging across an extensive network of more than 450,000 charging points throughout the United Kingdom and Europe. This includes major charging infrastructure providers such as InstaVolt and Osprey, ensuring widespread accessibility for participating drivers.
Addressing Key Barriers to EV Adoption
Both organizations emphasize that this initiative directly addresses one of the most significant obstacles to electric vehicle adoption: the cost of public charging for households without dedicated home charging capabilities. By reducing these expenses, the partnership aims to make electric driving more economically viable for a broader segment of the population.
Dr Vicky Edmonds, Chief Executive Officer of EVA England, explained the practical impact of the scheme: "This partnership with OVO focuses on delivering tangible savings directly to drivers. Lowering public charging costs can substantially reduce the overall expense of operating an electric vehicle, and initiatives like this help build confidence among those considering the switch to electric transportation."
Alex Thwaites, Director of Electric Vehicles at OVO, highlighted the inclusive nature of the program: "We recognize that public charging affordability remains a primary concern for many EV drivers. At OVO, we are committed to ensuring the transition to electric vehicles remains accessible and affordable for all individuals, irrespective of their residential situation or charging method."
Building Confidence in Electric Mobility
The partnership represents more than just a temporary discount program. Both companies stress that it forms part of a broader strategy to enhance driver confidence in electric vehicle technology and infrastructure. By providing a seamless and cost-effective charging experience, the initiative seeks to accelerate the adoption of cleaner transportation alternatives.
Thwaites further elaborated: "Our collaboration with EVA England extends beyond simple price reductions. We are creating an integrated, economical charging solution that empowers drivers to transition to electric vehicles with complete assurance and peace of mind regarding their ongoing charging requirements."
This three-month program marks a significant step toward addressing the practical challenges faced by electric vehicle owners without private charging facilities, potentially influencing longer-term solutions for equitable access to sustainable transportation infrastructure.
