The Met Office has triggered a yellow weather warning for the West Midlands, forecasting a severe bout of heavy rain and strong winds set to batter the region this weekend.
When and Where the Severe Weather Will Strike
The national weather service has announced the warning will be in effect for a full 24-hour period, starting at 6am on Friday, 14 November 2025, and lasting until 6am on Saturday, 15 November. The unsettled conditions are expected to begin developing from Thursday evening, becoming persistent and heavy throughout Friday before gradually easing on Saturday morning.
Expected Rainfall and Wind Impacts
Forecasters are predicting significant rainfall accumulations across the area. The Met Office expects 30-50 mm of rain to fall quite widely, with some locations seeing between 60-80 mm. The most severe deluges, potentially exceeding 100 mm, are anticipated over east-facing hills in southeast Wales. These downpours will be accompanied by strong winds, exacerbating the challenging conditions.
Potential Disruption and Travel Advice
Authorities are warning that the recent spell of wet weather has left the ground saturated, increasing the risk of surface water flooding and possible river floods. This could lead to significant travel disruption, following an incident on Wednesday, 12 November, where a fallen tree on Cross City South overhead wires caused a disrupted service between New Street and Bromsgrove / Redditch. Residents are advised to check for updates on road closures, bus diversions, and motorway delays before travelling.
