Dramatic footage captured the moment smoke billowed from a high-rise block of flats in the West Midlands as firefighters battled a seventh-floor blaze on 2 May.

Emergency Response

West Midlands Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the fire at St Giles Court in Rowley Regis shortly before midday. The first crew arrived within five minutes and used breathing apparatus to tackle the smoke. The blaze has since been extinguished.

Station Commander Luke Buckley of Dudley Fire Station confirmed there were no casualties. The fire is believed to have started on a balcony, according to initial reports.

Multi-Agency Support

The fire service was supported by Sandwell Council, West Midlands Police, and the ambulance service in a coordinated multi-agency response. Residents at the site have received guidance on safety measures.

Ellie Wills captured the footage showing smoke pouring from the building. Additional video revealed fire damage to the property.

Investigation Underway

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and the matter is now with the fire investigation team. Crews will remain at the scene into the evening. Members of the public are advised to avoid the area to allow emergency services to work.
