A Birmingham drug dealer determined to protect his £160,000 drug haul rammed into a police car on the M6 in a desperate bid to evade arrest.
Incident Details
Crack cocaine and heroin dealer Anjid Khan, 44, from Handsworth, was travelling in his Audi on the major motorway in the early hours of January 26 this year when he was boxed in by police. Three police cars surrounded Khan between junction 14 and junction 15 near Stafford.
Desperate to escape, Khan smashed his vehicle into a police car. However, when officers caught up to him, he was tasered and bitten by a police dog.
Drug Seizure
Drugs worth more than £163,000 in street value were seized from his Audi. The haul included crack cocaine worth between £15,700 and £16,060, cocaine worth between £16,110 and £22,800, and heroin believed to be worth £113,700. Digital scales were also found in the car.
Khan refused to carry out a breath test in custody. He was charged with serious drug offences, which he later admitted in court.
Court Proceedings
Khan admitted possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession with intent to supply heroin, possession of crack cocaine, dangerous driving, and criminal damage. As part of his sentence, the drugs were ordered to be forfeited and destroyed, along with £510 in cash. He was ordered to pay a financial penalty of £228. Khan has also been banned from driving for two years and ordered to take an extended re-test.
Police Statement
Detective Sergeant Claire Rider of Staffordshire Police said: “Khan was determined to protect his extensive drugs haul and evade capture, but we weren’t prepared to let him get away with it. Thankfully, we were able to bring him into custody and build all of the evidence needed to prove the offences in court, leaving him no choice but to confront his actions and plead guilty.”
A force spokesperson added: “We had information that Khan was travelling in an Audi on the M6 in the early hours of January 26. The car he was driving had been linked to a potential drug supply in the West Midlands area. Three police cars surrounded Khan and boxed him in while travelling on the northbound carriageway, between junction 14 and junction 15. Despite being boxed in, Khan still used his car to try and escape, causing damage to a police car. He was tasered and bitten by a police dog.”
