A spectacular charity dance hosted by a generous local businessman has raised a massive £11,100 to support vital hospital cancer services.
Fundraising Evening Organised by Peter Gwyn
The special fundraising evening was organised by Peter Gwyn of Peter Gwyn & Sons Quality Potatoes to help patients at Wrexham Maelor Hospital and Glan Clwyd Hospital. Held at the welcoming Wrexham Hotel on April 18, 2026, the incredible sum has been split equally, with £5,550 going to each hospital unit.
Personal Inspiration Behind the Event
The inspiring event was close to Peter's heart following his own personal experience after being diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2025. Thankfully, his illness was caught very early and Peter has since been completely cured following highly successful medical treatment.
Community Support and Entertainment
The glittering evening received wonderful support from the wider community, featuring a popular raffle and an exciting auction filled with generous prizes. Several famous faces attended the party to show their support, including Wrexham Football Club manager Phil Parkinson and assistant manager Steve Parkin. Guests were kept thoroughly entertained throughout the night by the talented comedian John Martin alongside the lively Wrexham Big Band.
Local Business Contributions
A brilliant variety of local businesses kindly donated raffle prizes, including Astley & Stratton Butchers, Maggie’s Coffee Shop and Wrexham Lager. Further grand auction prizes were generously contributed by several supportive local organisations, including the Secret Spa and Wilsons Accident Repair Centre.
Impact on Patient Care
The money raised will go directly towards improving local patient care, including buying comfortable new furniture, extra equipment, and funding complementary therapies. This highly successful evening beautifully highlights the immense power of community support and local generosity in making a real difference to families.
