Dog Kicked in Solihull Lift Seeks New Home

A dog who was cruelly kicked and hit by his owner in a lift inside a Solihull tower block is now looking for a new home. Chopper, a one-year-old Cane Corso-Great Dane cross, was subjected to the attack inside a high-rise building on Sheppey Drive in Smith’s Wood on Sunday, October 12 last year.

Owner Convicted Under Animal Welfare Act

Footage captured the disturbing incident, prompting the RSPCA to launch an investigation. Chopper was removed from his owner last November. The owner, who has not been named by the charity, received an 18-month community order and was banned from keeping animals for ten years after pleading guilty to an offence under the Animal Welfare Act.

Chopper Now Thriving with Foster Family

Since being rescued, Chopper has been cared for by an RSPCA foster family and is described as thriving. Cat Clements from RSPCA Coventry & District said: “Chopper is a big, bouncy boy who is young, energetic, and looking for a fresh start where he can enjoy life to the full. He is a sweet boy who has come such a long way since he first arrived with us. He was initially very nervous but soon learned he could trust us, thanks to lots of yummy treats! Everyday things spooked him, but now he’s gaining confidence day by day and, while he can still find new experiences daunting, he is also showing his true character as a cheeky and outgoing chap.”

RSPCA Inspector Ben Jones added: “It is so wonderful seeing Chopper looking happy, relaxed and enjoying life. His foster family said he loves to nap on the sofa and enjoys socialising with other dogs, which is really lovely to hear. Despite everything he’s been through, he’s a big softie with a heart of gold who just wants to enjoy life, and he’ll make the right family a truly wonderful pet.”

What Chopper Needs in a New Home

The RSPCA is seeking a forever home for Chopper. He could potentially live with another dog and with children aged over eight. Potential owners should be aware that Chopper has a tendency to snore loudly.
