St David's Hospice Care Unveils Exciting Fundraising Opportunities

St David's Hospice Care is gearing up for a series of fundraising events designed to raise crucial funds for its essential care and services. The hospice, which serves communities in Newport, Caerphilly, Torfaen, and Monmouthshire, has announced multiple initiatives that allow locals to get involved and show their support.

London Marathon Efforts by Dedicated Runners

One of the upcoming highlights is the London Marathon on April 26, where Ali and Sarah will be participating to raise money for Hospice Care. They have been actively fundraising to meet their target, including setting up a stall at ASDA in Caerphilly to sell branded merchandise and sweets while raising awareness about the hospice's mission. Their dedication highlights the community spirit driving these efforts.

Petals of Remembrance Initiative

In a touching tribute, Bupa Dental Care is sponsoring the Petals of Remembrance initiative. This year, individuals can honour and remember loved ones with a beautifully hand-crafted forever rose by Savage Works. Roses symbolise love, affection, and devotion, with each petal representing cherished memories and lasting love. The flowers will be placed in the St David's Hospice Rose Garden during the Event of Remembrance on Sunday, September 27. The event will feature moving music from Matthew Bartlett, Bapiper, and harpist Emily Harris, along with refreshments and a special moment for reflection. Purchases include optional attendance, allowing participants to collect their flower and place it in a meaningful location.

Inspiring Runner Rhys and His Challenges

Rhys, another dedicated runner for St David's Hospice Care, has already made significant strides in fundraising. In March, he completed the challenging Brecon to Cardiff classic, a 50km run, despite spraining his ankle at mile 18. Overcoming this obstacle, he persevered for 25 miles and successfully finished the race. Now, Rhys is training for an even more demanding 100-mile race in July, showcasing his unwavering commitment to the cause.

Mighty Miles Challenge for All Fitness Levels

For those seeking a less intense fundraiser, the Mighty Miles Challenge in June offers a flexible option. Participants can complete a mile or two whenever it suits them throughout the month, aiming for a total of 62 miles. The challenge encourages sponsorship from friends and family, with every mile moved supporting St David's Hospice Care. Upon signing up, participants receive a hospice-branded t-shirt, a handy calendar tracker, and a certificate to celebrate their efforts. Additionally, they gain access to support from the Mighty Miles in June community and the Fundraising team.

Become a Friend of the Hospice

Another way to support is by becoming a friend of the hospice. With a minimum payment of £5 per month or a £60 lump sum for the year, individuals can lend a helping hand to those in need. In return, friends receive a free enamel pin badge and a complimentary hot drink at the hospice cafe, located in the in-patient unit at Blackett Avenue, Newport, NP20 6NH. The cafe offers a variety of treats, from sweet snacks to soups and sandwiches, providing a welcoming space for supporters.

St David's Hospice Care also encourages the community to check their Our Events page for additional family-friendly activities that are affordable and fun, or even thrill-seeking adventures, all while contributing to the hospice's ongoing services. These events provide opportunities for everyone to get involved and make a difference in their local area.
