Bright sunshine greeted walkers last week, but it was accompanied by a brisk wind. Undeterred, 19 ramblers traveled into Yorkshire for a 10-mile walk covering Ponden Reservoir and Keighley Moor. The terrain was challenging, but the magnificent views compensated for the effort.
Sunday Walk in Higham
On Sunday, another group of 19 walkers completed a six-mile walk starting from the village of Higham. Highlights included the so-called 'hidden valley' on the way to Sabden and a visit to Stan's cabin, once owned by fell-running legend Stan Bradshaw of Clayton-le-Le Moors Harriers, who passed away in 2010 at the age of 97.
Wildlife Sighting
During the walk, participants spotted greylag geese and goslings, adding to the natural beauty of the route.
Upcoming Walks
On Sunday, May 3, a six-mile walk from Helmshore will take the group around the Grane reservoirs, offering glorious views in decent weather. On Wednesday, May 6, a 10-mile walk starts in Marsden, near Huddersfield, exploring the Huddersfield Narrow Canal at 'tunnel end', crossing the moors to Haigh Gutter, and returning via The Pennine Way and Millstone Edge. On Thursday, May 7, the first two-hour evening pub walk of the year begins in Birtle, Bury, overlooking the Cheesden Valley before returning for refreshments and socializing in the pub.
