Police in the West Midlands have dismantled a massive cannabis cultivation operation with an estimated street value of £1.7 million, following a raid on a disused factory in Walsall.
Dawn Raid on Midland Road
Officers from West Midlands Police executed the raid at the property on Midland Road shortly before 4.30am on Sunday, January 11. The targeted building, a former factory in the Black Country, was found to be housing an extensive illegal grow.
Inside, police discovered and seized a total of 1,737 cannabis plants. The sophisticated set-up for cultivating the Class B drug was described as one of the most significant uncovered in the local area in recent times.
Arrest and Court Appearance
A 33-year-old man was arrested at the scene in connection with the discovery. He has been identified as Danh Nguyen, of no fixed abode.
Nguyen was subsequently charged with producing a Class B drug, namely cannabis. He was scheduled to make his first court appearance at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court on Monday, January 12.
One of the Biggest Walsall Hauls
Commenting on the operation, Mark Collins, neighbourhood policing supervisor for the St Matthew’s Neighbourhood Team, emphasised the scale of the find.
“This was one of the biggest hauls of cannabis discovered in the Walsall area,” Collins stated. “A huge amount of cannabis has now been taken off our streets.”
The successful operation highlights ongoing police efforts to target organised crime and drug supply networks within local communities.
