A 25-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a fatal road collision in Birmingham that led to a substantial Crimestoppers reward for information.

Details of the Fatal Sparkbrook Collision

The serious two-vehicle crash occurred on Stratford Road in Sparkbrook, close to the junction with Ladypool Road. It happened shortly before midnight on Friday, 1 August last year.

Emergency services rushed to the scene to find a black Audi A4 and a blue Vauxhall Meriva had been involved in a collision, which also impacted a parked vehicle.

Tragically, a 22-year-old man, who was a passenger in the Vauxhall, sustained serious injuries. He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.

Three other people were also taken to hospital for treatment following the incident.

Arrest and Ongoing Police Investigation

West Midlands Police confirmed that a 25-year-old man from the Balsall Heath area was arrested on Tuesday, 13 January. He was detained on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remains in police custody for questioning.

The force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit has been conducting enquiries since the crash occurred. In October, the independent charity Crimestoppers offered a £20,000 reward for information that could assist the investigation.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the unit, stated: "Our thoughts, as ever, remain with the family of the man who died, and they are being kept fully up to date with our investigation as it continues."

Police are continuing to urge anyone with information who has not yet come forward to make contact. Detective Sergeant Hughes added: "We are still carrying out a number of enquiries, and I would urge anyone with information who has not yet spoken to us, to please get in touch."

Witnesses or anyone with dashcam or other footage are asked to contact police via Live Chat on the West Midlands Police website or by calling 101 and quoting log reference 5875 of 1 August.
