A man has been arrested following a stabbing incident near a primary school in Smethwick this morning, West Midlands Police have confirmed.
Incident Details
The victim, a woman in her 40s, was rushed to hospital after the attack occurred at approximately 8:30am on Wednesday, April 29. Police were called to an address on Highfield Road, close to Crocketts Community Primary School.
A 22-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder. Authorities have confirmed that the man and woman are known to each other.
Police Statement
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated: "We are currently at the scene of a stabbing on Highfield Road, Smethwick. Officers alongside our colleagues from the ambulance service were called to an address on the road just before 8:30am this morning. A woman in her 40s has been injured and taken to hospital. A 22-year-old man, who is known to the woman, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. We are in the early stages of our investigation, but believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider risk posed to the public."
School Operations
Crocketts Community Primary School remains open and operating as normal today. The school has been approached for comment regarding the incident.
A cordon remains in place on Highfield Road as investigations continue. West Midlands Ambulance Service has also been contacted for a statement.
Police have reassured the community that there is no threat to the wider public, emphasising that the incident is believed to be isolated.
