In a coordinated action, Birmingham City Council's Trading Standards officers, supported by West Midlands Police, conducted a raid at a 24/7 shop located in the Sparkbrook area. The operation involved thorough searches of the shop premises and two associated vehicles, uncovering a substantial haul of prohibited substances and products.

The illicit items recovered during the raid include:

  • 1,750 grams of suspected Amber Leaf hand-rolling tobacco
  • 68 large bottles of nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, found in an abandoned vehicle linked to the business
  • One vehicle

All these items were seized by authorities. Additionally, two individuals were arrested in connection with the operation, and further investigations are currently underway to explore potential links and additional offenses.

Sajeela Naseer, the director of Regulation and Enforcement at Birmingham City Council, emphasized the serious nature of the offenses. "Illegal tobacco, counterfeit products, and the unlawful supply of nitrous oxide pose significant threats to public health and community safety," she stated.

Naseer further highlighted the collaborative efforts, saying, "This operation demonstrates our ongoing commitment to working closely with West Midlands Police to safeguard residents and disrupt criminal enterprises that profit from dangerous goods. We will continue to take decisive action against those involved in such illicit activities."
