Christmas Day murder probe after Wolverhampton stabbing

A murder investigation has been launched following the fatal stabbing of a man in Wolverhampton in the early hours of Christmas Day, with two men now in police custody.

Emergency Response on Burcot Avenue

Officers from Midlands Police and ambulance crews were called to Burcot Avenue at approximately 3:30 am on Thursday, 25 December. The emergency call reported that a 30-year-old man had been stabbed. Despite the immediate and extensive efforts of paramedics at the scene, the victim's injuries proved fatal and he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Arrests and Rapid Investigation

As part of what detectives have described as "rapidly-moving" enquiries, two men were swiftly arrested on suspicion of murder. The suspects, aged 35 and 58, remain in police custody for questioning. A police cordon remained in place on Burcot Avenue throughout Christmas Day afternoon as forensic examinations were conducted.

Detective Chief Superintendent Ed Foster, leading the investigation, stated: "We are in the early stages of our investigation and carrying out quick-time enquiries including forensic examination, reviewing CCTV footage and speaking to witnesses."

Appeal for Information

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward. The force has emphasised that even the smallest detail could be crucial to their investigation. A police spokesman confirmed the ongoing work, saying: "A scene is currently in place while we carry out enquiries."

Detective Chief Superintendent Foster added a direct appeal: "We ask anyone who may have any information about what happened to contact us." The community in Wolverhampton has been left shocked by the violent death on what is traditionally a day of peace and celebration.
