A Midland school was placed into lockdown and pupils were kept inside as armed police officers were dispatched to the scene. The incident occurred at Derby Cathedral School on Great Northern Road, just before 3pm on Tuesday, May 5, as students were preparing to leave for the day.
Police Response
Derbyshire Constabulary received reports of a man potentially in possession of a weapon. Armed officers were deployed, and a man was located and arrested. No weapon was found, and no threats or injuries were reported. The police confirmed there was no risk to the public.
School Lockdown
Pupils from the nearby school were briefly held inside while officers ensured the safe arrest of the man. After the arrest, students were allowed to leave the school. The incident is believed to be domestic in nature.
Arrest and Charges
The man, in his 30s and from Derby, was arrested on suspicion of common assault, coercive and controlling behaviour, and false imprisonment. He remains in police custody.
