This is the moment a speeding motorist leaped from a moving vehicle before fleeing police on foot in Ollerton, Nottinghamshire.
Incident Details
Conrad Tonkinson, 22, was pursued by officers after being recorded traveling at 50mph in a 30mph zone. The chase occurred around Ollerton and Boughton at approximately 1.35pm on Tuesday.
Dashcam footage shows Tonkinson racing through a residential street and speeding toward a dead end in Bentinck Close. Seconds before the blue Nissan Qashqai crashed into a fence, a shirtless Tonkinson jumped from the driver's seat. He then fled on foot but was apprehended a short distance away.
Legal Consequences
Tonkinson, of Boughton, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, and driving without valid insurance. He was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court on 13 May.
Police Statement
Detective Sergeant Paul Clark of Nottinghamshire Police said: "The level of driving demonstrated by Tonkinson was extremely poor and put others at risk. Despite it being early afternoon on residential streets, he decided to take off at speed and make erratic decisions. That was summed up by him abandoning the car while it was still moving, allowing it to crash into a wall."
Clark added: "Tonkinson's terrible driving was in complete contrast to the excellent standards shown by the Roads Policing Unit officers. Thanks to their superior driving skills and the pace of the foot chase, nobody was hurt, and we were able to detain him and put him before the courts."
