A red Peugeot was recovered by police after being abandoned by suspected fuel thieves near HS2 construction sites in Coleshill. The incident occurred on Sunday, May 3, between 4pm and 4.30pm on Stonebridge Road, between the Coleshill Heath Road roundabout and the Birmingham Road roundabout.
The driver and passenger, both described as white males, fled the scene before police arrived. The vehicle, a red Peugeot 207, was later seen being moved by a pick-up truck. Officers from Atherstone and Coleshill Police recovered the car and are investigating its involvement in fuel thefts from HS2 depots.
Police Appeal for Information
On social media, Atherstone and Coleshill Police posted: "Officers from Atherstone have recovered a vehicle suspected to be involved in fuel thefts from HS2 sites in Coleshill. The driver and passenger, both white males, fled the scene prior to police arrival. Enquiries are being made in relation to an abandoned red Peugeot 207 located nearby to the site."
They urged anyone who saw two males acting suspiciously on Stonebridge Road between the specified times to report it via the link quoting Incident 215 - 03/05/2026.
This incident adds to ongoing issues at HS2 construction sites, which have faced repeated fuel thefts. Authorities are stepping up patrols to deter further criminal activity. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the police or Crimestoppers anonymously.
