Machete Attack in Bolton Shop Sends Children Fleeing as Thug Jailed
Shocking CCTV footage has captured the terrifying moment a violent thug launched a machete attack on two men inside a corner shop in Bolton, forcing terrified children to desperately scramble for cover. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, April 5, 2025, has led to a significant prison sentence for the perpetrator.
Violent Assault Unfolds in Local Store
Disturbing video shows Dale Dean, 26, initially approaching the checkout to purchase baby wipes at approximately 7:49 pm. Moments later, two men dressed in black and green entered the food store, prompting Dean to unzip his dark blue jacket and produce a large black machete. As the victims began fleeing in terror, Dean savagely hacked at them from behind, creating a scene of chaos and fear.
During the horrifying assault, two children and an adult who were also present in the shop were seen desperately diving behind the counter for safety. The footage further reveals the two victims retreating behind the counter as well, before Dean brutally stabbed them, causing a chocolate bar stand and weighing scales to crash to the floor.
Widespread Destruction and Community Impact
Dean wreaked havoc throughout the shop, smashing bottles of wine and destroying other goods before making his escape. Police were called to the store on Kentmere Road, Breightmet, in Bolton, Greater Manchester, at around 7:50 pm following reports of a man brandishing a machete. Upon arrival, officers discovered one victim had sustained multiple injuries, including wounds to his head and shoulder.
In the aftermath of the attack, the victim has since recovered physically but has admitted struggling "to walk out on the street" and experiencing difficulty sleeping due to the pain and location of his injuries. This violent incident has left a lasting impact on both the individuals involved and the wider community.
Sentencing and Police Response
Dean, of Upper West Grove, Manchester, was sentenced to six years in prison at Manchester Crown Court on Friday, February 20, 2026. He pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent, possession of a bladed article, and affray. The court additionally imposed a 20-month extended licence period upon his release, citing the severity of the offence and the threat Dean poses to the general public.
Detective Constable Jordan Brown, of Bolton Criminal Investigation Department, commented on the case, stating: "This was a shocking and violent incident that left the victim with serious injuries and caused fear within the community. Dean's actions were deliberate, dangerous, and showed a blatant disregard for the safety of others."
He added: "Dean used or threatened unlawful violence, causing significant fear to those nearby, and was found to be carrying a machete without lawful reason. We welcome today's sentence, which reflects the gravity of the offences. Our officers will continue to take decisive action against those who carry weapons and commit violent offences on our streets."
