A man has been charged with theft and carrying a knife following a police call-out to a shop in Sutton Coldfield.

Police Respond to Suspicious Behaviour

Officers from the New Hall and Four Oaks neighbourhood team were called to a store on Penns Lane in the Wylde Green area at approximately 8:55 am on Monday, January 12. The call concerned a man who was reportedly acting in a suspicious manner.

Arrest and Charges Laid

Upon arrival, police conducted a search. They discovered a number of stolen items and also located a small knife. The suspect, identified as John Mcloughlin, aged 45, was detained at the scene.

Mcloughlin, of Hawkesyard Road in Erdington, Birmingham, was subsequently arrested. He was later charged with theft from a shop and possession of a bladed article in a public place.

Court Appearance and Ongoing Action

The accused appeared before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, January 13. He has been remanded and is scheduled to appear at the same court again later this month for further proceedings.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police confirmed the details, stating their commitment to tackling business crime. "We’re working hard with our partners to tackle business crimes like shop theft - in Sutton and across the West Midlands," the force said.
