Metropolitan Police Detective Sacked for Hiring Sex Workers and Buying Drugs Abroad

A detective from the Metropolitan Police has been dismissed from the force after a disciplinary panel found he hired sex workers and purchased class A drugs during personal trips abroad.

Gross Misconduct Findings

Detective Constable Pervaz Malik, who was based in the force's central west command unit, organised sex workers for himself and others on trips between 2016 and August 2023. The disciplinary panel, which convened on Tuesday, March 31, determined that Malik had committed gross misconduct by breaching professional standards of behaviour.

In addition to the sex worker allegations, the panel found that Malik had bought, used, and facilitated the supply of class A drugs during his overseas travels. The former officer also deliberately failed to provide the correct passcode to his mobile phone as part of a criminal investigation.

Senior Officer Condemns Conduct

Detective Chief Superintendent Chrissy Jessah, who leads policing in central west London, issued a strong statement condemning Malik's actions. "Police play a vital role in protecting individuals who are at heightened risk of violence and exploitation, and any deviation from that duty represents a serious breach of public trust," Jessah said.

"DC Malik would have been fully aware that he was acting in clear violation of his obligations to safeguard the public, as well as the strict rules governing drug use. His conduct was wholly unacceptable and fell significantly short of the standards expected by the organisation and the public."

Arrest and Disciplinary Process

Malik was initially arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply controlled drugs at Stansted Airport on August 15, 2023. While the Crown Prosecution Service closed the criminal case with no further action, the Metropolitan Police proceeded with internal misconduct proceedings.

The officer was suspended from duty following his arrest and remained suspended until the misconduct hearing. As a result of the panel's findings, Malik will now be added to the barred list, which permanently prevents him from working in policing again.

Broader Implications

This case highlights ongoing concerns about police conduct and accountability within law enforcement agencies. The Metropolitan Police has faced increased scrutiny in recent years regarding officer behaviour and professional standards.

The disciplinary panel's decision to dismiss Malik underscores the serious consequences officers face when they violate public trust and professional codes of conduct. Police forces across the country continue to emphasise the importance of maintaining high ethical standards among serving officers.
