A 26-year-old motorist from the Midlands has been remanded into custody after a dramatic police pursuit involving a helicopter.

Dramatic Night-Time Pursuit Leads to Arrest

The incident unfolded in the early hours of Monday, December 29. West Midlands Police reported that a vehicle was seen driving dangerously shortly before 1am.

A significant joint response was launched, involving response officers from Sandwell and the National Police Air Service (NPAS). The NPAS helicopter was deployed to track the vehicle from the air.

Court Appearance and Charges

The suspect was arrested on Cypress Road in the Yew Tree area. He has been named as Callum Nightingale, of Walsall.

Nightingale appeared at Wolverhampton Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, December 30. He was charged with two serious offences:

  • Driving dangerously
  • Driving whilst disqualified

The magistrates remanded him into custody. His next court date is scheduled for Wolverhampton Crown Court on Monday, January 27.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police provided a summary of the events: "It follows a joint effort by Sandwell response officers and the National Police Air Service (NPAS) when they spotted a vehicle driving dangerously on 29 December shortly before 1am, with an arrest being made soon after on Cypress Road, Yew Tree."
