West Midlands Police have issued an update on the search for the mother of a newborn baby girl whose body was discovered in a waste pile at a warehouse in Rowley Regis. The force confirmed on Monday that they are still trying to locate the mother, who is believed to be in urgent need of medical and emotional support.
Discovery of the Baby
The infant's body was found shortly before midday on Thursday, June 25, at a warehouse on Station Road, Rowley Regis. Police believe the baby, a girl, had been unknowingly transported to the site by a private waste operator the day before, on Wednesday, June 24. The waste operator works across the West Midlands, Staffordshire, Warwickshire, and West Mercia areas, and the business is not being linked to the baby's death.
Police Appeal and Priority
Detective Chief Inspector Kylie Westlake, from the force's Public Protection Unit, said finding the mother has been made an absolute priority due to concerns for her welfare. "While we don't yet know what has happened, what we do know is that there must be a mother out there who is in real need of help − and she is our absolute priority at the moment," she said. "We have been checking CCTV and speaking to hospitals, but it may be that the mother or someone who knows who she is sees this appeal."
Ongoing Investigation
Police are urging the mother or anyone with information to come forward, assuring that all information will be treated sensitively. A Major Incident Public Portal has been set up to allow direct submission of information to officers. DCI Westlake added: "I really want to speak to her to make sure she's OK, and to ensure that she can get the help that she urgently needs. It may be you live near a baby, and their mother, who have unexpectedly not been seen for a number of days."
