A 19-year-old man has confessed to the brutal murder of his stepfather, who was found stabbed to death alongside the family pet dog at their Derbyshire home.
Emergency Call Leads to Grisly Discovery
Armed police officers rushed to a property on Valley Road in Shirebrook on the evening of October 22 last year. The emergency response was triggered by a 999 call received at 8.45pm.
At the scene, they discovered the body of 57-year-old Christopher Owen. He had sustained multiple fatal stab wounds. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the address.
Tragically, officers also found the family's Jack Russell dog dead from several stab wounds.
Arrest and Court Proceedings
Logan Procter, then 18, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Mr Owen and with causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal.
The animal cruelty charge was later incorporated into the murder charge. Procter appeared at Derby Crown Court on Friday, January 16, where he entered a guilty plea to murder.
Sentencing Awaited for Teen Killer
The court remanded Procter into custody following his plea. He is scheduled to return to Derby Crown Court on March 16 for sentencing, where a judge will determine his fate.
The case has sent shockwaves through the Shirebrook community, leaving neighbours and authorities to grapple with the horrific nature of the crime that claimed both a man and his pet's life.
