Detectives are working to establish the motive behind a stabbing in Stafford that left a man in his 60s in a critical but stable condition. The attack occurred on Thursday, May 14, at 7pm while the victim was walking through Stafford Castle golf course, near Newport Road.
Police Reassurance Patrols
Chief Inspector Saqib Butt, commander of the Stafford Borough local policing team, confirmed that Staffordshire Police is conducting reassurance patrols in the area. A large police presence remains at the scene, with a blue forensic tent in place and officers in high-vis uniforms patrolling the cordoned-off area.
Ch Insp Butt said: 'We understand this incident will cause concern within the local community. I want to reassure residents that we are doing everything we can to identify and apprehend the person responsible.'
Suspect Description
The attacker is described as a man in his mid-to-late 20s, potentially of Eastern European heritage, of average build, and wearing dark clothing. When asked about the possible cause of the attack, Ch Insp Butt stated that inquiries are ongoing, with detectives working hard and at pace.
Appeal for Information
Detectives are urging anyone who was in the area around Redgrave Drive towards Stafford Castle shortly before the assault to come forward. They are particularly interested in any CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage that could assist the investigation.
Ch Insp Butt added: 'If you live nearby or were passing through and have CCTV, dashcam, or doorbell footage, please take the time to review it and get in touch if you have anything that could assist our investigation.'
