Suspect named in Birmingham murder probe after teen stabbed

Detectives investigating a fatal stabbing in Birmingham have publicly named and issued a photograph of a suspect they urgently wish to trace.

Appeal for Information After Teenager's Death

The appeal follows the death of Chris Ikouara, aged 19. He was fatally stabbed at an address on Olton Boulevard East in Acocks Green on Tuesday, 13 January. Emergency services attended, but the young man was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Specialist officers from the force's Homicide unit are leading the investigation. They have described the victim as a "kind, caring and deeply cherished" son and have stated that his family continues to be supported during this devastating time.

Suspect Named as Public Asked for Help

In a significant development, police have now identified Zachariah Liburd, aged 22, as a suspect in their murder investigation. A picture of Liburd has been released as part of a direct appeal for public assistance to locate him.

Detective Superintendent Jim Munro issued a stark warning: "I would urge Liburd to do the right thing. Come forward before we find you." He emphasised that officers are pursuing multiple lines of enquiry, including reviewing CCTV and speaking to witnesses.

How to Contact Police

Authorities are urging anyone with information, no matter how minor it may seem, to make contact immediately. Information can be provided via the following channels:

  • Calling West Midlands Police on 101, quoting log number 2771 of 13 January.
  • Using the Live Chat function on the force's website.
  • Contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Det Supt Munro added a clear warning to anyone potentially assisting the suspect: "If anyone is helping Liburd avoid us you should know you will also face arrest and prosecution." The police also have a dedicated online portal where the public can submit footage or images related to the case.
