A thief from Tamworth has admitted stealing a television from Asda and then breaking into a local sports club, where he stole charity tins, alcohol, and cash.
Details of the crimes
Darryl John McIntyre, 37, of Chaucer Close, Tamworth, entered the Asda store at Ventura Retail Park on Saturday, April 11. Shortly before 7pm, he stole a TV worth £218.
Two weeks later, on Saturday, April 25, at around 5am, he broke into the Bolehall Swifts club on Rene Road. There, he stole three charity tins, cash, and bottles of alcohol. He also caused a significant amount of damage to the property.
Arrest and court appearance
Staffordshire Police officers arrived within minutes of the burglary and found McIntyre running down the road. He then tried to hide behind a car on a resident's driveway. He was arrested and found in possession of items from the football club.
McIntyre was initially arrested on suspicion of burglary and further arrested in connection with other burglaries, theft from a motor vehicle, and theft from a store.
He appeared at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on Monday, April 27, where he pleaded guilty to burglary and theft from a shop. He was released on conditional bail and is due to appear at Cannock Magistrates' Court for sentencing on Monday, June 4.
Community response
Bolehall Swifts posted on social media on Saturday, appealing for help: “Bolehall Swifts is in need of a hand!! Is there anyone with a van, they can help us get some okay wood?? We are also looking for a glazier and someone who can do doors!”
They later thanked the community for their support: “I personally would like to thank Trudy, Melvyn and Lianne Reeves, John and Lynette Wood, Kayleigh Kerry for all your help today in making sure that we got the pub open and running in time. And for everyone else for checking in on us!! Our little community melts my heart.”
