Detectives from the British Transport Police have launched an urgent public appeal for information following a serious sexual assault on a woman at Birmingham New Street railway station and on a subsequent train.
Details of the attack
The incident occurred on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at around 10pm. The victim was standing on a platform at the busy station when she was approached by an unknown man.
He began acting inappropriately towards her before sexually assaulting her. The woman managed to push the man away and board a train service heading towards Kidderminster in an attempt to escape.
Second assault on the train
Shockingly, the same man followed her onto the train. He sat next to the victim and proceeded to sexually assault her for a second time during the journey.
The attacker then left the train when it arrived at Kidderminster railway station. The victim was left deeply distressed by the two separate assaults.
Police appeal for information
Investigating officers have released a CCTV image of a man they are keen to identify and speak to, as they believe he may hold vital information that could assist the enquiry.
The man in the image is described as having a dark beard and short hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black tracksuit top.
A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Detectives would like to speak to the man pictured, as they believe he may have information that could help their investigation."
