Two brothers from Coventry have been sentenced to prison after being caught on camera stealing thousands of pounds in gold jewellery and cash from a home in the Midlands. Patrick Connors, 35, and Gerry Connors, 32, both of Dovecote Drive, Coventry, broke into a property on Bloomfield Avenue on August 28 last year, making off with £7,000 worth of gold jewellery and £1,300 in cash.
CCTV Evidence Leads to Arrests
The pair were unaware that the homeowner had installed CCTV cameras in the garage, which captured their every move. West Midlands Police reviewed the footage and identified the Connors brothers. Patrick was arrested on October 1, and Gerry was detained nine days later.
Further investigation linked Patrick to another burglary at a property on Woodway Walk on May 30 last year. He gained access to the shared property, damaging doors and ransacking cupboards, though nothing was reported stolen.
Court Sentencing
Patrick pleaded guilty to burglary with intent to steal and burglary dwelling and theft. Gerry pleaded guilty to burglary dwelling and theft. Both appeared at Warwick Crown Court on May 1, where Patrick was jailed for four years, and Gerry received a 27-month sentence.
Detective Sergeant Jay Aston, who supervised the investigation, said: "Residential burglary is a deeply invasive crime that can leave victims feeling vulnerable long after the damage has been repaired. My team worked tirelessly to gather the forensic and digital evidence needed to build a robust case, and I am immensely proud of their commitment to getting justice for the victims. Seeing these two behind bars is testament to that hard work and we hope it offers peace of mind to those impacted by these offences."
He added: "Patrick and Gerry Connors showed a blatant disregard for the privacy of others, striking shared housing where multiple people were affected. Thanks to the CCTV provided by the victims and the diligent work of my officers, we were able to take these two off the streets of Coventry."
