The owners of the iconic Snobs nightclub have submitted planning applications to Birmingham City Council to transform the former Players nightclub into a new Irish bar featuring a rooftop terrace. The venue, located at 240 Broad Street, was purchased for £2.5 million in late 2024 after closing in 2022 due to the pandemic.
Rooftop Plans
New planning documents reveal proposals to install a retractable canopy over the existing flat roof, creating additional usable space for customers. The application also includes erecting an enclosure around existing plant equipment. This would allow the bar to offer outdoor seating and entertainment options.
Investment and Vision
Snobs owner Wayne Tracey previously stated that the new venue will be "best in class" and represents a £4 million investment over the next 24 months. The project will be developed in phases, starting with the street-fronted Irish bar, followed by a garden terrace, roof terrace, and live music spaces.
Tracey said: "We shall shortly start development of a new Irish bar to add to the city’s growing stock of top quality hospitality venues. It will be best in class to provide a new and unique experience in and around Broad Street. We hope to create a multi-use facility, which incorporates indoor and outdoor spaces, that can be used for daytime and evening hospitality, entertainment, including sports, live music, DJs and much more."
With such large spaces, the building will need to offer flexibility and variety in its offerings for the surrounding areas. The street fronted Irish bar will be the first phase of the project, which will go on to create a garden terrace, roof terrace, live music spaces, and many more vibrant opportunities.
"All told, we will be making an investment of £4 million over the next 24 months and beyond towards the project to draw more customers to the city’s vibrant entertainment scene. We’re very excited to deliver a new space for Birmingham."
