105-Year-Old Credits Long Life to Staying Active

Fred Cooper Celebrates 105th Birthday at MHA Aigburth

Fred Cooper, a resident at MHA Aigburth care home in Oadby, recently marked his 105th birthday with close family. Born in Birmingham, Cooper attributes his remarkable longevity to a simple philosophy: stay active.

From Navy Service to Retirement in Leicester

Cooper spent 13 and a half years in the Royal Navy as an air electrical mechanic, retiring as a chief petty officer. After retiring, he moved to Leicester to be near his son, John. He has two children, John and Ann.

Staying Fit Despite Blindness

Despite being blind, Cooper maintains a regular exercise routine. He said: “Living to 105, for me it's about trying my best and staying active. I still exercise with light dumbbells, and I think that does help.” His fitness regimen includes light weight training, which he believes contributes to his health.

Birthday Celebrations at the Care Home

Staff at MHA Aigburth decorated Cooper's room and presented him with a birthday badge and cake. Cooper expressed his gratitude: “I was very happy with what was arranged for me and want to thank everyone for their hard work. Despite not being able to see, I was told my room was decorated for me and it was nice to know what was done. My son and daughter in law came to see me and they were very impressed with what had been arranged.”

MHA Aigburth: A Happy Place for Residents

The Leicester home provides residential and residential dementia care for 56 residents. Cooper praised the care he receives: “MHA Aigburth is a very happy place, and I am very happy with the care and support I receive. Again, I want to thank everyone who made my birthday special for me, and it is highly appreciated.”
