Tragic Discovery: Family Finds Father Dead in Car After M61 Crash
A beloved father-of-three was heartbreakingly discovered deceased by his own relatives inside a vehicle, a full 28 hours after it plunged down a steep embankment off the M61 motorway. Nadeem Hussain, aged 37 and from Nelson, was found by family members at approximately 2am on Monday, March 23, rather than by emergency services, following his absence from home.
Timeline of Events and Police Response
Lancashire Police reported that an iPhone crash SOS alert message was received by their force control room shortly after 10pm on Saturday, March 21. However, after an attempt to recontact the number, the call log was closed. The vehicle, an Audi A3, had collided with trees down the embankment, coming to rest hidden from view of the carriageway near junction 9 at Clayton Brook.
Mr. Hussain was reported missing at 2.14pm on Sunday, March 22, and was graded as medium risk, with ongoing enquiries to locate him. His worried family traced his phone to the motorway, leading to the tragic discovery. A Home Office postmortem examination revealed he would have died instantly from his injuries.
Investigation and Community Support
The police force referred themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which determined that an investigation should be conducted by the local constabulary. A spokesperson expressed condolences, stating, "First and foremost, our thoughts remain with Nadeem Hussain's loved ones at this distressing time. They are being supported by specially trained officers." A local investigation into the cause of the collision is now underway.
In response to the tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been launched by Chloe Townson to collect donations for charitable causes in Nadeem's memory. She described him as a kind and thoughtful man passionate about cars, a loving father to three children, and a close brother and son. The funds aim to build water wells for those less fortunate and support other charitable causes, providing comfort to the grieving family.
Anyone with information about the crash is urged to contact the police on 101, quoting log 0074 of March 23, or email the Serious Collision Investigation Unit at SCIU@lancashire.police.uk.
