Sixty firefighters are currently engaged in a major operation to control a significant fire at a scrapyard in Kings Norton, Birmingham, which has resulted in thick black smoke spreading across the southern parts of the city.

The blaze ignited at approximately 10:30 AM on Lifford Lane in Kings Norton and has since extended to a neighbouring timber yard. Some local residents have reported hearing explosions emanating from the scene, adding to the urgency of the situation.
Emergency Response
West Midlands Fire Service has mobilised a substantial response, deploying 12 fire engines, a hydraulic aerial platform, and specialist vehicles. Crews from 11 stations across the region are involved in the efforts to contain the fire.
The fire service issued a statement, saying: "This is a significant scrapyard fire, which has created a large smoke plume in the area. Because of this, if you live or work nearby please close your windows and doors."
