West Midlands Police Detective Found Dead Outside Birmingham Home

Heartbreaking tributes have been paid to a dedicated serving West Midlands Police officer who was found dead outside a property in Birmingham. The body of Detective Constable Tayyab Malik, aged 35, was discovered on Yardley Wood Road in the Billesley area at approximately 2pm on Tuesday, February 24.

It is understood that he was found in a car parked on the driveway of a house. West Midlands Police have confirmed that his death is not being treated as suspicious, and a file is being prepared for the coroner.

Family's Heartfelt Statement

In a statement issued via police to the media, his family expressed their profound grief. They said, "We are heartbroken by the loss of Tayyab Malik, a dedicated serving police officer and a beloved son, husband, brother, friend and nephew. There are no words to describe the depth of our loss. He will be missed more than words can express and will always remain in our hearts. May he rest in peace."

Police Response and Investigation

A police spokesman stated, "It is with great sadness that we announce that Det Con Tayyab Malik passed away on Tuesday afternoon. We were called to Yardley Wood Road, Birmingham, shortly after 2pm where the body of a 35-year-old man was found. Sadly, nothing could be done to save him."

Assistant Chief Constable Mike O'Hara from West Midlands Police added, "We are devastated by this tragic news. Tayyab will be hugely missed by his colleagues and friends at West Midlands Police. All our thoughts are with his family at this awful time and we are offering them as much support as we can."

Officers have been investigating the circumstances surrounding the death since the discovery. The scene was sealed off at both the front and back of the property. A black Volkswagen Polo was covered by a blue forensic tent on the driveway.

Scene Details and Forensic Work

Forensic officers were observed photographing a door that had been removed from its hinges. Additionally, a small police tent was seen covering burnt items on a common area near rugby posts and a children's play area. West Midlands Fire Service participated in the investigation, although West Midlands Ambulance Service was not called to the scene.

Floral tributes have been left at the location as the community mourns the loss of the officer. The investigation continues as authorities work to provide closure for the family and colleagues affected by this tragic event.
