Former Birmingham Doctor Appears in Court on Multiple Sexual Offence Charges

A former doctor from Birmingham, aged 38, has made a court appearance facing a total of 45 sexual offence charges involving 38 alleged victims. Nathaniel Spencer, of Hockley in Birmingham, stood before Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on Monday, March 16, 2026.

Allegations Span Multiple Hospitals Over Four-Year Period

The charges stem from what Staffordshire Police have described as a complex investigation into alleged sexual assaults. Spencer is accused of committing offences against patients at two separate hospital locations: Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley and the Royal Stoke University Hospital in Stoke-on-Trent.

The alleged incidents are said to have occurred between 2017 and 2021, covering a four-year period during which Spencer worked as a resident doctor with The Dudley Group NHS Foundation Trust.

Breakdown of Charges and Court Proceedings

During the 45-minute hearing, Spencer spoke only to confirm his identity and was not required to enter pleas to the charges. The comprehensive list of allegations includes 32 counts of sexual assault, 12 counts of sexual assault of a child under 13 years old, and one count of attempted sexual assault.

Judge Sally Hancox presided over the hearing and renewed Spencer's conditional bail while addressing logistical concerns about the upcoming trial. The judge explained that holding the trial in Stoke-on-Trent would not be practical and revealed she had consulted with Midlands court circuit officials to identify a suitable alternative location.

Trial Arrangements and Future Court Dates

The court has scheduled a further pre-trial hearing for later this year, with Judge Hancox specifying that this would not occur before Monday, May 11, 2026. At that hearing, court officials will establish more detailed directions for the case proceedings.

Judge Hancox addressed Spencer directly during the hearing, stating: "There will be a further hearing in this case – that will not be before Monday, May 11 – when further directions will be set. At the next hearing further consideration will be given to the location, timing and timetable of the trial, and if necessary arraignment will take place."

The exact trial date and location remain undetermined at this stage, with the court system working to coordinate these important details. The case has been adjourned pending the upcoming pre-trial hearing where these logistical matters will receive additional attention from legal authorities.
