Liverpool swimmers dominate Blackpool Lights meet

Swimmers from the City of Liverpool made a significant impact at the Blackpool Lights swimming meet over the weekend, delivering a series of outstanding performances that resulted in a remarkable medal haul.

Local Stars Dominate the Pool

Niko Dorsz was in exceptional form, securing an impressive five gold medals, alongside one silver and one bronze. He was matched by Sasha McNabb, who also claimed five golds and a silver medal. The success continued with Tess Coles, who earned five gold medals, achieving personal best times in both the 200m Individual Medley and the 200m Freestyle.

Layla Keeble returned home with four golds and a silver, while Nalika Mortimer collected three golds, two silvers, and three bronze medals. Personal best swims were a common theme, with Isla Hayes using them to take gold in the 100m Freestyle, 200m Backstroke, and 200m Breaststroke.

Personal Bests Fuel Success

Zerrin Bentham recorded five personal bests, which translated into a gold, a silver, and a bronze medal. Other notable medal winners from the Liverpool contingent included Harry Porthero, Riley Powell, and Summer Melvin.

The Halton team was led by Anthony Wawrzyniak, who secured gold in the 200m Backstroke and 100m Butterfly, both in personal best times. Orla-Quinn Riley finished with a gold and a silver, and Beth Macgugan found success with a silver and a bronze. In the 50m Breaststroke, one of four personal bests earned Taylor Fishwick a silver, while Matthew Raley, who set six personal bests, won a bronze.

Crosby and Formby Swimmers Impress

Crosby swimmers were also out in force. Harry Colley picked up two silvers, with Abigail Park and Daniel Jackson each adding two bronze medals to their collections. There was a silver for Harvey Gilsenan and bronze medals for Poppy Hignett, Jacob Leung, and Annie Mcentryre.

From Formby, Jessica Cooper had a fantastic weekend, taking two golds, a silver, and a bronze. Her club colleague, Ciara Garlock, set six personal bests, with the highlight being a silver medal in the 200m Breaststroke.

Penguins Triumph at Down Syndrome Championships

Meanwhile, at the Down Syndrome British Championships in Crawley, the Liverpool and Cheshire Penguins enjoyed a highly successful weekend. Andrew Potter led the way, taking gold in the 25m Breaststroke and bronze in the 25m Backstroke.

Daniel Daley claimed three silvers and a bronze, while Shauna Hogan returned home with two silvers and two bronze medals. Ethan Mullin took silver in the 25m Backstroke and bronze in the 25m Breaststroke. One of several personal bests saw Millie Kitchen secure silver in the 25m Freestyle, and Sam Wainwright rounded off the successful weekend by posting a number of personal bests.
