Manchester headteacher walks 500 miles in Premier League challenge

A Manchester headteacher has completed over 500 miles of his ambitious 1,000-mile 'Walk the Premier League' challenge - with the campaign already delivering thousands of pounds worth of support to schools and communities across the North West and beyond.

Peter Stewart, headteacher at New Moston Primary School in North Manchester, has spent every day of his school holidays in 2026 walking between Premier League stadiums to raise awareness, funding, and support for local communities and schools.

Making Strides

Peter's campaign has already delivered over £30,000 in school and community resources. Now officially past the halfway stage of the challenge, the campaign has generated significant impact, including:

  • Over £2,500 worth of food stock donated across 15 schools to support breakfast clubs, family support, and community initiatives.
  • SEND resources donated to schools to support children with additional needs.
  • £1,000 cash donated directly to a North West school community project.
  • A business partnership resulting in more than £30,000 worth of furniture and technology donated to help develop a new school and community hub.
  • A further £5,000 library furniture giveaway to help transform reading spaces for a school.
  • Increased participation in walking and physical activity amongst children and school staff inspired by the challenge.
  • Funding secured for three bleed control cabinets within the New Moston area as part of ongoing work to support safer communities.

Miles Ahead

Peter is walking between Premier League stadiums across the country. Inspired by tragedy and challenges within his local community, the challenge began as a personal commitment to give back, support schools, and become a positive role model for children whilst promoting healthier lifestyles.

Since launching, the campaign has continued to grow throughout 2026 with support from schools, local businesses, families, and members of the public.

Peter said: "When I first started this challenge, I simply wanted to do something positive for my school community and my children whilst pushing myself physically and mentally. What it has become is far bigger than I ever imagined. We’ve seen businesses step forward to support schools, communities come together, children become more active, and real resources delivered directly to the people who need them most. The impact has been far wider than my own school. Walking over 500 miles has been incredibly tough at times, but seeing the impact it’s already having makes every mile worth it."

The challenge will continue throughout the year, with over 500 miles still remaining as Peter continues walking between Premier League stadiums across the country.

During May half-term, Peter endured temperatures of up to 34 degrees as he made his way from Nottingham Forest to the Cotswolds via Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa. With the campaign now entering its next phase this summer, further community-focused initiatives and partnerships are expected to be announced over the coming months.

Peter added: "This challenge has shown what can happen when people come together with a shared purpose. We’re only halfway through, and there’s still so much more we want to achieve."
