Tributes have poured in for an 'exceptional' teacher who was found unresponsive at a beach. Today (June 4) an inquest revealed his name was Ruhul Amin Nana, a 34-year-old teacher who worked at The Broadway Academy in Birmingham.
The married father was based in Ettington Road, Aston but born in Navsari, India. He tragically died at Barmouth, Gwynedd, a resort popular with visitors from the Midlands, on the last bank holiday Monday.
Emergency services responded to reports of a man in the water at the beach shortly after 3pm. A 24-year-old man also from Birmingham was arrested by North Wales police, he has since been released on bail while he assists detectives with their inquiries.
Today an inquest was opened at Caernarfon by North West Wales senior coroner Kate Robertson. She said Mr Nana was confirmed dead at Barmouth lifeboat station by a paramedic after becoming “unresponsive” in the sea.
“A post-mortem examination requires further investigations prior to a proposed cause of death being provided,” the coroner said. “I have reasonable cause to suspect an unnatural death and therefore open this inquest.”
The brief hearing was adjourned.
Ayoub Khan, MP for Birmingham Perry Barr, posted online: ”I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr Ruhul Nana, a highly respected member of staff and an exceptional science teacher at The Broadway Academy within my constituency of Birmingham Perry Barr. Mr Nana made a lasting impact on so many young people through his dedication, kindness and passion for teaching.
He will be remembered fondly by students, colleagues and the wider community. My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, children, family, friends and everyone at Broadway School at this incredibly difficult time.
May Allah grant him the highest place in Janaat Al Fardous and give his family and friends patience.
The school has said: ”We are working with the local mosques and bereavement counsellors to provide support for those that need it.”
