Inquest Details Traumatic Neck Injuries in Essex Dog Incident
A 19-year-old woman was found with severe traumatic injuries to her neck following an incident involving a dog at her Essex home, an inquest has been told. Jamie-Lea Biscoe was discovered by her father in an upstairs bedroom of the property located in the village of Leaden Roding, Essex, on the evening of April 10.
Details from the Coroner's Hearing
Court co-ordinator Matthew Austin informed the hearing that Ms. Biscoe had sustained serious traumatic injuries to her neck, which were suspected to have been caused by one of the family's dogs. A forensic post-mortem examination recorded her cause of death as neck injuries, pending further investigation into histology and toxicology results.
Essex senior coroner Lincoln Brookes confirmed that he received a written request from Essex Police to suspend coronial proceedings while a criminal investigation is ongoing. He expressed his deepest condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of Jamie-Lea Biscoe, describing the event as a tragic loss of life.
Ongoing Police Investigation
Essex Police had previously confirmed that officers were called to a property in Long Hide, Leaden Roding, at 10:45 p.m. on April 10. Ms. Biscoe was pronounced dead at the scene. A 37-year-old man from Dunmow was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death.
The man has been released on bail until July as enquiries continue. The dog, believed to be a lurcher cross and thought to be a family pet, was taken by authorities. Tests are currently being conducted to formally determine the exact breed of the animal.
