A popular Birmingham bar and music venue has been forced to close its doors after police intervened following a violent incident that left two men in hospital.
Violent Disorder Leads to Immediate Closure
West Midlands Police were called to the U Wish Lounge on Eyre Street in the Ladywood area just after 1 am on Friday, November 28, 2025. Officers and ambulance crews attended the scene to find two customers who had been seriously assaulted with weapons.
The attack is being investigated as a section 18 wounding offence with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Both injured men required hospital treatment, although thankfully their injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Police Action and Licensing Review
Expressing profound concerns for public safety, the police swiftly applied to Birmingham City Council for an expedited summary review of the venue's premises licence. Superintendent Karl Thomas stated the severity of the incident justified immediate action to suspend the licence.
A hearing was convened by the council's licensing sub-committee A on Monday, December 1, 2025. The committee heard detailed evidence from police regarding the venue's failure to uphold key licensing objectives, primarily the prevention of crime and disorder and the protection of customers from harm.
28-Day Suspension and Supervisor Removed
The sub-committee's ruling was decisive. It ordered the immediate suspension of the U Wish Lounge's licence for 28 days while a full review is prepared. In a further significant step, the committee mandated the removal of the designated premises supervisor, Harpreet Singh.
This temporary closure means the venue must remain shut until the full review is concluded. The case highlights the stringent measures authorities can take when serious violence occurs on licensed premises.
