A dramatic overnight police chase in Walsall culminated in officers using a Taser to detain a suspected car thief, West Midlands Police have confirmed.
Stolen Vehicle Spotted in Aldridge
The incident began in the early hours of Saturday morning, December 6. Officers from the force's dedicated road crime team identified a stolen Ford in the Aldridge area.
Upon being sighted by police, the driver of the vehicle allegedly refused to stop and sped away from the scene. This triggered a pursuit, with police following the car as it travelled from Aldridge into Walsall.
Foot Chase and Struggle Leads to Taser Use
The situation escalated when the occupants of the Ford abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers gave chase, leading to a physical confrontation with the driver.
During the ensuing struggle, a police officer deployed a Taser to subdue the suspect. One man was subsequently arrested in connection with the incident. The arrested individual is believed to have been the driver of the stolen car.

Following the arrest, West Midlands Police Traffic officers shared an image of the recovered vehicle, which showed significant damage. The dark-coloured Ford appeared smashed up following the events of the chase.
Outlining the sequence of events on social media on Saturday morning, WMP Traffic stated: "Road Crime Team officers saw this stolen Ford in Aldridge in the early hours. It made off and was pursued to Walsall before the occupants decamped where the driver was arrested after a foot chase and struggle resulting in him being Tasered."
