Six individuals have been arrested and a sword recovered following a violent disorder in Birmingham that prompted a response from armed police, including a police dog team.
Incident Details
Police were called to Old Walsall Road in Hamstead at approximately 3:50 PM on Wednesday, May 6, following reports of people fighting with weapons. Officers from the firearms unit, along with Police Dog Aggie and a drone team, were deployed to the scene.
Arrests and Recovered Weapon
Six youths, aged between 16 and 19, were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. They have since been bailed pending further investigations. A sword was discovered hidden in bushes by the drone team and was subsequently seized by officers.
Police Appeal
West Midlands Police have issued an appeal for witnesses to come forward. A spokesperson stated: “We have arrested six people in connection with violent disorder in Great Barr. We were called to reports of disorder on Old Walsall Road, Great Barr, at around 3.50pm yesterday, where multiple people were seen fighting with weapons. Officers attended including firearms and PD Aggie where six people were identified and arrested on suspicion of violent disorder. A sword was also recovered after it was spotted by our Drones Team in some bushes. The six, aged between 16 and 19, have all been bailed pending further enquiries into the investigation.”
