A busy road in Wolverhampton was sealed off for several hours after a suspicious bag was discovered on a bus. The incident occurred on School Road in Tettenhall Wood on Thursday evening, May 7, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
Passengers Evacuated from Number 1 Bus
Passengers aboard a National Express number 1 bus were quickly evacuated by the driver after the suspicious item was found. Police arrived at the scene at approximately 6:50 PM, and a cordon was established as a precaution while the bag underwent examination.
Cordon Lifted After Item Deemed Safe
The cordon remained in place until 10:30 PM, when authorities confirmed that the bag posed no risk to the public. A West Midlands Police spokesperson stated: 'We were called to reports of a suspicious bag on a bus on School Road, Tettenhall Wood, just before 6:50 PM yesterday. Officers attended and a cordon was put in place as a precaution. The bag was examined and was found to pose no risk to the public. The cordon was removed at 10:30 PM.'
National Express Statement
A National Express Bus spokesperson added: 'I can confirm that there was an incident involving a suspicious object on a National Express Bus number 1 service in Tettenhall Wood yesterday evening. Nobody was hurt and all passengers were swiftly evacuated from the vehicle by our driver. Emergency services attended the scene, assessed the item and confirmed it was safe, and the incident was subsequently stood down.'
No injuries were reported during the incident, and the road has since fully reopened to traffic.
