Free Painting Workshop for Over 50s in Bury Aims to Boost Wellbeing
Free Art Session for Bury's Over 50s

Residents of Bury aged fifty and above are warmly invited to participate in a delightful and engaging painting session at the Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre next month. This complimentary workshop forms a key component of the First Time for Everything initiative, a community health and wellbeing programme meticulously designed by the Royal Voluntary Service.

A Programme Fostering New Experiences

The First Time for Everything scheme, which receives vital support from players of the People's Postcode Lottery, is dedicated to providing individuals with opportunities to explore new activities at no cost. The programme emphasises socialisation, staying active, and is particularly focused on engaging older adults or those with limited mobility, helping them connect with their local community in meaningful ways.

Guided Artistic Expression

Participants will be guided through the creative process by the acclaimed artist Stephen Walton. His session is specifically crafted to allow attendees to express their inner artist freely, without the pressure of achieving technical perfection or 'correctness'. The environment will be enriched with beautiful, inspiring music and enthusiastic direction, ensuring everyone leaves with a unique painting they can feel proud of.

The session is scheduled to last for two hours. A pleasant break is planned for 3pm, where free refreshments will be provided, offering a chance to relax and socialise further with fellow attendees.

Supporting Community Health

Laura Chow, Head of Charities at People's Postcode Lottery, commented on the initiative's importance: "Being active, getting out and about and feeling part of the local community are important for health and wellbeing, no matter what our age, ability or circumstances. With generous support from our players, 'First Time for Everything' brings local people together to try something new, to meet new people and have fun."
