UK Faces 7 Days Over 30°C: July Heatwave End Date Set

The United Kingdom is bracing for a prolonged heatwave spanning seven days with temperatures consistently above 30°C, according to the Met Office. The mercury is forecast to hit 32°C on Tuesday, July 7, and again on Wednesday, July 8, before climbing to 33°C between Thursday, July 9, and Friday, July 10. Saturday, July 11, will see highs of 32°C, while Sunday, July 12, and Monday, July 13, are expected to reach 30°C, marking the conclusion of the hot spell.

Met Office Confirms Heatwave Conditions

A Met Office spokesperson stated: “Temperatures are back on the rise again through this week though it won’t be as humid this time! We’ll see temperatures climbing into the mid 30’s for some by mid-week with heatwave criteria likely met.” This will be the third heatwave in the UK so far this year, following similar events in May and June.

Forecaster Details Temperature Expectations

Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Steven Keates noted: “Parts of the UK are entering heatwave conditions: the third heatwave in the UK so far this year. However, unlike the May and June heatwaves, we are not expecting this heatwave to be record-breaking. Temperatures this week are not expected to reach the highs we witnessed last month, though parts of southern England in particular are likely to see several days in the low 30s Celsius, and a few places could reach 34-35°C later this week.”

Keates also highlighted overnight conditions: “Night-time temperatures again will not be as high as what we experienced in June, though some larger urban areas are likely to remain in the high teens Celsius overnight, especially later in the week, and there is a chance that a tropical night (where temperatures do not fall below 20°C) may be recorded in a few places.” He added that the heat would extend to Scotland and Northern Ireland, where peak temperatures are more likely to be in the upper 20s Celsius.

Public Health Advice Issued

With high UV levels and soaring temperatures, the Met Office urged the public to take precautions. Keates advised: “With high UV and high temperatures, people should take the usual precautions with the heat and the sun.”

Netweather TV Forecast

Jo Farrow from Netweather TV provided additional detail: “Midweek, more of the UK will heat up. Scotland and Northern Ireland into the 20s C and more areas reaching heatwave criteria in England and Wales with temperatures in the mid to high 20s and low 30sC. By Friday, central England into NE Wales looks very hot. The most likely top maximums will be 34, perhaps 35C. Although not expected, there is a small possibility of a degree or so higher. There is day-on-day heating, direct sunshine, and hardly any breeze. Also, this feed of very hot air from Spain and France.”

Farrow added: “Tuesday will be dry and bright with a light breeze. Plenty of hazy sunshine and sunny spells at times. Another hot day, similar to Monday.”

Outlook for the Rest of the Week

The Met Office outlook from Wednesday to Friday states: “Dry and sunny to end the week. Light winds, though breezier Friday. Hot throughout as temperatures increase.” The heatwave is expected to subside after Monday, July 13, bringing an end to the seven-day run of 30°C temperatures.
