The United Kingdom is set to experience an abnormal summer this year, with meteorologists predicting multiple heatwaves over the coming months. The Met Office has issued its three-month outlook for June, July, and August, indicating a higher likelihood of hotter-than-average weather and potential heat-related impacts.
June Begins with Disappointing Weather
Despite the long-term forecast, June is expected to start on a dull note, with grey skies and below-average temperatures. This follows a record-breaking end to May. However, the Met Office's outlook suggests that the overall summer will be warmer than usual, with an increased chance of heatwaves.
BBC Weather Confirms Heatwave Risk
BBC Weather presenter Simon King reported that the Met Office released its three-month summer outlook on 1 June. The outlook predicts higher-than-normal chances of hotter weather during the month and suggests "an increased chance of heatwaves and heat-related impacts." Long-range forecasts from the Met Office and MeteoGroup also indicate the risk of additional heatwaves, with "a few notable high temperature spikes" possible.
Above-Average Temperatures Expected
According to MeteoGroup, above-average temperatures are expected for each of the months of June, July, and August. Significant bursts of heat are anticipated across the UK and Europe. The Met Office's forecast for the first half of June describes changeable conditions with Atlantic frontal systems bringing showers or longer spells of rain, particularly in the northwest, while the southeast remains drier. Strong winds may affect parts of the UK, especially the northwest. Later in the period, higher pressure and more settled conditions may become more prevalent, especially in the south, with temperatures likely to be near normal overall.
