Paris Buildings Evacuated Amid Multiple Bomb Threat Reports
French police have confirmed receiving several bomb threats against multiple locations in Paris, leading to widespread evacuations and search operations across the capital. Authorities are actively investigating the threats, which were reportedly sent via email to various officials, prompting immediate security measures.
Evacuations and Security Sweeps Underway
According to French media reports, "several emails" containing threats to blow up various sites in Paris were distributed to different authorities. In response, police have evacuated numerous buildings, with sniffer dogs deployed to assist in thorough searches. Montparnasse Tower, a prominent landmark, is among the locations targeted, with social media indicating that police have sealed off the surrounding area as security teams conduct sweeps.
Local authorities have advised the public to avoid the 15th Arrondissement, where Montparnasse Tower is situated, to facilitate police operations. Additionally, Sciences Po Paris, a prestigious university, has been affected by the evacuations. Police informed Le Figaro that at least one report was made just before 6 p.m., concerning potential explosive devices at various city sites.
Ongoing Police Operations and Precautionary Measures
Police are currently overseeing evacuations at multiple locations, with a police source telling actu Paris that, as a security measure, some establishments requested evacuation and verification processes. Notably, the Eiffel Tower has not been closed, despite evacuations at other buildings around Paris. This incident follows a recent bomb threat at the headquarters of France's hard-left France Unbowed party, which was evacuated on Wednesday, as confirmed by national coordinator Manuel Bompard.
Bompard stated on social media that all employees and activists are safe, with police services on site. The situation unfolds amid heightened security concerns, coming just hours after police apprehended two additional suspects linked to the deadly assault on Quentin Deranque, a far-right political activist who died last week from a serious brain injury after an attack by at least six individuals.
French authorities continue to urge vigilance as they investigate the bomb threats and ensure public safety across Paris.
