Stansted Airport has warned passengers about significant train disruption this weekend due to planned engineering works. The airport, one of the busiest in the UK, announced that there will be no direct rail services to and from London Liverpool Street on Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10.
Alternative Routes Advised
Travellers are urged to use alternative routes via Cambridge and London King's Cross. The airport stated on social media: "Due to planned engineering works, there will be restricted rail replacement services. There will be no direct train service to and from London Liverpool Street during this time, and passengers travelling to London will be advised to travel via Cambridge and London King's Cross."
Engineering Work Details
The disruption is caused by engineering work between Waltham Cross and Stansted Airport. A notice on the airport's website reads: "Due to engineering work between Waltham Cross and Stansted Airport, direct train services to and from the airport will not operate on Saturday 9 May and Sunday 10 May. You will need to travel via London Kings Cross and Cambridge."
Passengers are strongly advised to check the National Rail website for the latest updates and plan their journeys in advance to avoid disruption. Greater Anglia, the train operator, noted that Network Rail carries out essential engineering works to maintain and improve the railway network, ensuring reliable journeys.
Other Affected Services
On Saturday, May 9, services from Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge North to Thetford/Peterborough will also be disrupted. On Sunday, May 10, services from Bishops Stortford/Hertford East to Waltham Cross will be affected. Passengers are encouraged to use the Greater Anglia booking engine and app to check for impacts on their journeys.
Stansted Express travellers are recommended to journey via Cambridge and King's Cross during this period. The airport and train operators urge passengers to allow extra time for travel and stay updated with real-time information.
